Dawn Van Dam
President
Health Connexions

Dawn has always brought creativity, passion and innovation to her work. As founder and President of Health Connexions, she specializes in providing strategic, operations and marketing consulting expertise to the healthcare sector. Her strategic insights help to bring together healthcare suppliers and organizations to develop new healthcare service delivery programs. Additionally, Dawn has an uncanny ability to build public-private partnerships in the healthcare sector. Health Connexions specializes in providing strategic solutions and education programs to address complex health care problems.

One example of a new product and service program she developed allows physicians to screen their patients to help identify treatment or therapy options. A recent program looked at patients who had not yet been offered a particular treatment. An amazing 39% of all patients who were screened were identified as good candidates to receive this treatment, which would reduce their risk of complications in the course of their disease.

Dawn has held a number of senior management positions over the last 20+ years. These have included positions as the first-ever Director of Marketing & Business Development at a Canadian hospital, where she developed a new vision and strategic plan to uniquely position the hospital in an evolving, competitive market. As part of her retail and business development portfolio, she created a strategic and operational plan which doubled revenue to $3.2 million while identifying and negotiating business partnership commitments totaling $1.2 million.

In the pharmaceutical industry, Dawn was Director, Sales & Business Operations, where she exceeded target year-over-year by improving sales force productivity. She has designed new hiring protocols, linking training programs to performance outcomes and establishing clear goals and objectives. Dawn has negotiated multi-million dollar contracts with major partners to collaborate in R&D and Canadian policy development.

She has also developed and implemented marketplace launch strategies which have resulted in the top-performing region while setting new, international performance standards. Dawn's leadership in the area of market access and reimbursement has produced breakthrough category results, in areas that had previously been fully restricted in the marketplace, along with forging an industry template for future initiatives.

Her marketing, sales and business development career has spanned the information technology, consumer products and private and public health care industry sectors in Canada and the United States.

Dawn moved to Canada from the U.S. a number of years after graduating from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. She recently completed 6 years on the Board of Directors at the Four Villages Community Health Centre in Toronto where she held successive positions, including Board Chair, and she spent 5 years as a Board member and Committee Chair for the Toronto District Health Council.

Dawn has been published in 'Women in the Lead', a book providing qualified and experienced candidates for Boards of Directors, which has been published through the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.
