Innovation and Leadership Awards
The CATAAlliance Innovation and Leadership Awards are the most prestigious annual awards conferred on individuals and corporations by Canada's advanced technology community. They are presented in recognition of exceptional contributions made to the creation of science and technology-based industrial strength in Canada. Criteria for each award are explained as part of the category description.

- The Celestica Award for Technology Commercialization
New Technology Commercialization Award to recognize the efforts of a technology company whose product has been commercialized through the use of advanced manufacturing and innovative electronics. - The Peter Brojde Award for Canada’s Next Generation Executive Leadership
This Award recognizes the executive leadership of an individual who has had a major impact on the creation, success and/or transformation of their enterprise. Candidates will typically hold senior positions such as CEO, CFO, COO, President or Vice-President. The winner will be representative of Canada’s next generation of Innovation Nation business leaders. - The Motorola Award for Public Safety Technology
The Award will be presented to a Canadian organization for an outstanding technology engineering development which has resulted in the production of a world-class Public Safety product or family of products. The product will have proven itself in operation and its design and market success will have enhanced Canada's international reputation for innovation and excellence. - McCague Borlack Outstanding Product Achievement Award
The McCague Borlac Outstanding Product Achievement Award will be presented to a Canadian organization for an outstanding technology engineering development which has resulted in the production of a world-class product or family of products. The product will have proven itself in operation and its design and market success will have enhanced Canada's international reputation for innovation and excellence. - Intel SME Innovation Award
The Award will be presented to a Canadian organization that exemplifie the smart use of technology, overcomes business growth obstacles with innovative approaches, and successfully adopts technology to improve their competitiveness. - National Public Relations Excellence in Science and Technology Reporting (French & English)
The Award is presented to a journalist or writer raising the public profile of science and technology and contributing to the building of a science and technology culture in Canada - Telfer Private Sector Innovation and/or Leadership in Advanced Technology
The Private Sector Innovation and/or Leadership in Advanced Technology Award is presented to an individual from the private sector in recognition of outstanding technological innovation and corporate leadership which has significantly expanded the frontiers of Canada's advanced technology industry. The recipient must have demonstrated consistent innovation and leadership skills resulting in the creation and international acceptance of significant world-class products and/or the establishment and development of a major advanced technology company or companies that have withstood the test of time. Contributions to achieving a more competitive investment climate in Canada will also be taken into account. - Wilfrid Laurier University Public Sector Leadership in Advanced Technology
The Public Sector Leadership Award is presented to a leading individual from the public sector to recognize a significant contribution to the development and application of advanced technology in Canada. The recipient must have demonstrated creativity and leadership in the design and implementation of policies and programs to support the development and application of advanced technology. The recipient will have been consistent in supporting technology and its application. Programs initiated by the recipient must have provided important support to the developers of technology as well as to industries which will benefit from its use. - ICTC IT Strategic HR Management
The ICTC (Infomation and Communications Technology Council) Strategic HR Management Award is presented to the Information Technology (IT) company or organization that enhanced their performance and reputation by leveraging organization human capital. Their efforts should demonstrate how Human Resources (HR) align with corporate strategic goals and enhances their successes. The winner will have led their organization by effectively providing leadership on HR issues, contributing to business growth and communicating the value of HR.Nominations will be evaluated on an organization's IT HR planning, delivery and execution as well as demonstrated understanding and use of technology, business knowledge and strategic contributions. The organization honoured will also demonstrate their belief and dedication towards understanding the IT sector and its many innovations. Judges will evaluate the extend to which the nominees HR strategy and actions added value while attracting and developing an engaged, motivated and highly qualified workforce. - Salesforce.com Cloud Computing Innovation Award
The Salesforce.com Cloud Computing Innovation Award is presented to an organization leading service transformation through the adoption of cloud computing and contributing to the building of a culture of excellence in the Canadian public sector. - Sara Kirke Award for Canada's Leading Woman High Tech Entrepreneur
The Sara Kirke Award for Canada's Leading Woman High Tech Entrepreneur is presented to the woman who has shown the most outstanding technological innovation and corporate leadership -- leadership that has significantly expanded the frontiers of Canada's advanced technology industry. The purpose of the Award is to celebrate innovation, entrepreneurship and create positive role models for women.
Selection Process
CATA's Board of Directors will examine all nominations and determine the three leading candidates in each category. These three leading candidates in each category will then be submitted to the CATAAlliance membership for voting. The 2013 winners will be announced at the 28th Annual Canadian Innovation and Leadership Awards Gala in May 29, 2013 at the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa, Conference Room in Ottawa, Ontario.
