Named In Honour of North America's First Woman Entrepreneur

Ottawa, January 17, 2008 ... The official call for nominations is now underway for the Sara Kirke Award for Canada's Leading Woman High Tech Entrepreneur by the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance (CATA).

The Sara Kirke Award is part of CATA's Women in Technology (WIT) Forum. The CATA WIT Forum is designed to help women in technology and bio-tech advance in their careers and succeed as entrepreneurs. See http://www.catawit.ca.

The Sara Kirke Award is presented to the woman who has shown outstanding technological innovation and corporate leadership -- leadership that has significantly expanded the frontiers of Canada's advanced technology and bio-tech industry.

"The Sara Kirke award is a key program of CATA WIT Forum striving to attract women to tech and bio-tech careers, and to recognize the best contributions for Canadian innovation and outstanding achievement," stated Joanne Stanley, Managing Director of CATA WIT Forum.

"CATA WIT Forum's vision is to be the premier Canadian go-to forum for women in technology and the Sarah Kirke award program is a way of reaching out to women tech entrepreneurs in Canada." says Dr Cindy Gordon, CEO of Helix Commerce, and chair of the CATA WIT Forum National Advisory Council.

The CATA WIT Forum Selection Committee for the Sara Kirke Award is chaired by Dr. Barbara Orser, Deloitte Professor in the Management of Growth Enterprises, Telfer School of Management, University of Ottawa, and a member of the CATA WIT National Advisory Council. " We need more of these types of recognition programs for women in Canada to stimulate demand and recognize role model women in our communities for their contributions of leadership and excellence" said Dr. Orser.
