February 04, 2013 - George Brown College President Anne Sado has become a member of the Governors Council of the movement to create Intelligent Communities across Canada, indicated i-CANADA Chair & CATAAlliance National Leadership Advisor, Bill Hutchison.
“A college is an Intelligent Community at its most intense level,” said Mr. Hutchison. “We are very excited that this visionary leader will be helping us transfer the power of learning institutions to the broader civic and business community.
“Anne is an innovator; she is raising education to the next plain. Her drive to establish a Community Partnerships Office, for example, allows the college to provide a range of community-based programming that helps citizens gain important skills and improve their economic security.”
““The focus of i-Canada on cultivating intelligent communities is very much aligned with our efforts at George Brown College, stated Ms. Sado. “Colleges play a significant role advancing our science, health, engineering and social services to keep both our community and our country internationally competitive. As leader of an organization focused on aligning educational programs to better meet labour market need, I’m anxious to participate in this important effort.”
“Anne has been named one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women in two of the last three years,” added Mr. Hutchison. “We are thrilled to be tapping into her strategic vision and her sense of community.”
The i-CANADA Governors Council is Chaired by New Brunswick Premier David Alward, and includes forty other Premiers, Mayors and CEOs. I-CANADA’s goal is to create an Intelligent Nation, where each community is making full use of digital inclusion, ultra-broadband communications, and a rainbow of applications, to prosper with the higher employment and better living standards that are the hallmark of Intelligent Communities.
i-CANADA is a movement dedicated towards making all Canadian communities -- large and small, urban and rural -- into Intelligent Communities, fully employing e-health, e-work, e-commerce, e-education and e-government, to provide the sustainable prosperity that comes from full digital enablement. i-CANADA is currently working with some 50 Canadian communities, rural and local, to transform them into Intelligent Communities. ‘First the community, then the country’, is the motto that i-CANADA uses to visualize the evolution of Canada into one of the world’s Intelligent Nations.
