Novo Plastics has won the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance's (CATA) Innovation through Technology award offered at the Canadian Aboriginal and Minority Supplier Council (CAMSC) annual gala ceremony. The award recognizes an Aboriginal or Minority-owned business for the most innovative new technology-based product or service, which demonstrates innovative talent in developing and successfully marketing a new concept, process or procedure.

Based in Markham, Ontario, Novo Plastics engineers and manufactures injection moulded plastic components and assemblies for the automotive and consumer /commercial sectors.

Its innovative and patented ECO2 line of products, such as its plastic muffler systems, offers its customers significant weight savings, size reduction, enhanced fuel economy in vehicles with the common goal of reducing CO2 emissions all while maintaining and improving on existing motor acoustic properties. Novo's ECO2 products have endured and continue to endure rigorous field-testing at world certified testing facilities, and prototypes are now being commercially tested with most North American automotive OEMs. Novo Plastics has invested in the rapidly growing global automotive marketplace, with most Indian OEMs also in commercial tests of its muffler system.

"Our products are designed to deliver cost effective solutions with significant environmental benefits that focus on reducing the global carbon footprint," says Baljit Sierra, President and CEO. "Novo understands that cost effective solutions with significant environmental benefits are a requirement of every world-class corporation and Novo's revolutionary plastic muffler is just one example of taking this mandate and making it a reality. We are very proud to have won this award and thank CATA for recognizing our achievements."

The CATA Innovation Through Technology award is the latest advancement resulting from CATA's long-time partnership with CAMSC and further demonstration of the importance both organizations place on diversity as a means of encouraging innovation in Canadian workplaces.

"As demonstrated by Novo, there are incredibly innovative companies in Canada headed by minority and Aboriginal leaders who can be held up as shining examples of how great ideas driven by passion, and complemented through strategic investments in technology, can create best-in-breed products that realize a global demand" says CATA Vice President, Kevin Wennekes. "We hope this award will help to shine an even brighter light on these companies and help them realize even greater business success at home and abroad."
