You will benefit from engaging in a conversation with national and international audiences on issues ranging from communications interoperability, First Responder buyers group, technology adoption, and procurement, among many other subjects.

The series officially launched January 20th with featured speaker Steve Palmer, Executive Director of the Canadian Police Research Centre. Points for discussion included plans for the February launch of the First Responder Technology Roadmap.

"The Canadian Police Research Centre will be leading a number of important initiatives this year and it will be important to discuss these with a broad audience of public safety stakeholders," says Mr. Palmer. "With plans including the launch of a First Responder Technology Roadmap, a living lab in Regina and other programs within the Centre for Security Science and the evolving discussion on interoperability and 700 Megahertz for a public safety broadband network, there will be much to discuss at this and the other planned webinars. "

The Public Safety Perspective Series is a continuation of CATA’s "Bridging the Gap" campaign linking Canada’s First Responder and Public Safety communities with the national and international vendors who seek to serve them.

"Since the inception of the Bridging the Gap campaign in 2006, CATA has produced numerous research papers, conducted high-profile advocacy campaigns supporting the CPRC, interoperability, and broadband acquisition, and are about to launch our fifth annual Vendor Outreach Forum which provides a neutral meeting ground for these communities to converge," says Kevin Wennekes, CATA’s VP Research. "We see this program as a means to offer a consistent, on-going conversation between our major events and address the topical issues of the day."

Adds Mr. Palmer: "Ultimately, these webinars will allow Canadian emergency and public safety leaders an opportunity to discuss the outcomes we are looking for of increased industry / research/ responder collaboration, to improve the safety of responders and our communities and enable companies to get faster to market with products and services relevant to the response / public safety community."

Upcoming Session:

October's live broadcast will feature Inspecteur Benoit Charron, Pratiques policières et technologies de l'information for the Gatineau Police Service, who will reveal details on a soon-to-be released Request for Proposal (RFP) for the acquisition of a system to manage all digital evidence collected during the course of an investigation.

This project has an estimated budget of more than $100,000 CAD and the closing date for submissions will be in early December, with the winning bid determined later that same month.

"Specifically, we are seeking to procure a complete, integrated solution that will equip two new interview rooms, five interrogation rooms and two breathalyzer rooms," says Inspecteur Charron. "We will be seeking to acquire not only the needed hardware, but also require a software solution that manages the multimedia files and adheres to and enforces our internal disclosure practices."

The webcast takes place on Tuesday, October 30 at 1:00 PM EST.

Inspecteur Charron will provide an overview of the Department's needs, identify the process for submitting a bid, and conclude the one-hour session by answering any questions from those in attendance.
