Bruce Lazenby is Chairman of the Ottawa Software Cluster and adviser to several software companies. Prior to this role, Bruce was President and CEO of FreeBalance Inc. for six years where he helped the company grow by over 300% and extend its market reach to five continents. FreeBalance is the leading supplier of enterprise software and services specifically targeting government operations. Prior to that he was Vice President of Federal Operations responsible for all corporate activities in the company's largest account base. He was subsequently promoted to Canadian Business Development responsibilities and later became Vice President of Business Development where he was charged with the task of leading international business relations and sales initiatives, supported by an experienced direct sales staff and a family of international resellers. Lazenby joined FreeBalance Inc. from the Canadian Department of National Defence where he was Director of Financial Management Information Systems. In that role, he was responsible for the successful operation of DND's world-wide financial systems which managed a $13 billion annual budget as well as a classified Capital forecasting system which managed the Department's $260 billion Capital program. As the senior financial systems executive of Canada's largest government department, Lazenby has had a unique opportunity to participate in financial management policy-making as well as the development of new initiatives and new systems across government. This exposure has provided him with a unique understanding of internal government requirements and operations. Previous to becoming Director of FMIS, Lazenby completed an outstanding military career rising to the senior officer ranks in the Canadian Navy. His military career included jet fighter training, diving operations, two United Nations peacekeeping missions in the Middle East and postings across Canada and the Arctic. His assignments included four tours as senior financial officer.
