    New IT survey results released by Microsoft Canada Co. - Two-thirds of the Survey respondents say IT is the top growth enabler as most prepare to expand operations over next 12 months

When asked to identify the top growth enabler for their organizations, Canadian IT and business executives at midsize and large organizations ranked the use of technology to improve staff productivity and efficiency as the number-one factor, according to survey results released by Microsoft Canada Co. Most respondents are also feeling bullish about their business prospects in 2008 - two-thirds of those polled said they plan to expand their operations over the next 12 months, and 80 per cent said current business conditions in Canada are either "good" or "ideal."

    New Advanced Security Research Now Available - First comprehensive national survey and study of First Responders in Canada

For the first time in Canada, Fire, Police, Paramedic and Emergency Response organizations were asked about their current use of technology, about emergency preparedness capabilities, and to identify a range of services they would like to see available to improve collaboration and cooperation amongst various jurisdictions. A total of 144 Chiefs (or equivalent) from Fire, Police, Paramedic and Emergency Response Organizations responded to the study.

    New CIO Research Now Available

A Synopsis is available of a summit of 40 senior executives from leading companies who met around a figurative "kitchen table", to find ways to deal with an issue of heartburn importance to CIOs: finding a way to bridge the silos between IT and the business itself. CIOs explain their transition to speaking many "languages" to keep up with the changes that are coming into the company from abroad, and the corporate objectives that are part of the CIO landscape today.

    A Report of Canadian Executive and Frontline IT Security Professionals on Their Information Sources, Security Challenges, and Career Advantages

A summary report of an online survey conducted of 322 Canadian IT Security Professionals, conducted between the dates of November 1-16, 2007, is now available. The survey identifies the key IT Security challenges affecting Canada's IT professionals and learn more about their perceptions of IT security.     SRED Tax Incentives - Call to Action

As part of the CATAAlliance's effort to support the Federal Government's effort to find ways to maximize the effectiveness of the incentives for your business, we are providing an SR&ED Discussion Paper, as a basis for executives to educate their MP's, local media and community on the benefits of the SR&ED Tax Incentive program.

    Women Still Under-Represented in Advanced Tech Sector

Women are under-represented in the ranks of the high tech sector. New research by the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance Women in Technology (CATA WIT) Forum and University of Ottawa Telfer School of Management examines this gender imbalance. The study concludes that many women in the advanced technology sector believe they face gender-specific career challenges. The challenges are pervasive and embedded at all levels in the worker/ employer and business owner/market relationship.

    Industry Survey Says Canada's SR&ED Program Not Working the Way It Should

This year's web consultations focused on the Canada Revenue Agency's (CRA's) administration of the SR&ED program. The report on these consultations, On-line Consultations on Administrative Aspects of the SR&ED Tax Incentive Program, 2007 Consultation Report, includes the observations of more than 200 participants on what is working in the administration of the SR&ED program and what needs to be improved.

    Attracting, Retaining and Training International Educated Professionals

Findings by the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) identified challenges facing Canada's ICT sector in its efforts to attract, retain and train internationally educated professionals, as detailed in a consultation report produced by the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance (CATAAlliance).
The report, On the Road to Building an ICT Framework for Internationally Educated Professionals (IEP), offers insights into the barriers facing IEPs in Canada looking to find employment in their field of study, and the hiring practices of Canadian employers with respect to IEP applicants.

    Commonwealth Healthcare Event Opens Door to Fastest-growing Economies, Export Growth

    First Responders Operating on Different Frequencies: Research Provides Important Insights

Interoperability of communication technologies between First Responders - especially among those in the same community - is identified as a primary concern for Canadian first responders, according to an interim report released today by CATAAlliance.
The interim report provides a glimpse into a national consultation of Canada's First Responder community: the nation's Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Service personnel. Titled Keeping Canadians Safe, the report provides a select sampling of the results to-date of the ongoing study, which, when completed, will seek to provide a comprehensive situational analysis of the first responders technology, R&D, and emergency preparedness capabilities and needs.

    Supply Chain Management Now At Forefront of Business Competitiveness

Robert Angel of the Gilford Group prepared the "Speeding Up The Supply Chain" report. It notes that Canada cannot compete just on price - a knowledge and learning culture must support innovation right across the enterprise, not just silo'ed productivity improvement. Pressures like the 40% rise in the Canadian dollar against U.S. currency over the past three years, the Canada/U.S. labour cost gap, and the increasing shortage of skilled labour, are making it even more imperative for Canadian companies to excel at creating agile Supply Chain strategy, structure and performance.

    The Perils and Profits of Global Supply Chains

    The Advantage Canada Summit 2006 - Halifax -- Ipsos Reid Survey

  H2Bridging the Gap: Manufacturing Leadership Roundtable

Defining the strategic and tactical role for Canada's Information & Network Communications Technology Industry in Bridging the Canadian Manufacturing 'Excellence Gap' in Productivity & Innovation.

The report is based upon the outcomes of a Leadership Roundtable called "Bridging the Gap". The Roundtable enjoyed the participation of 75 business leaders comprising a cross section of Ontario industrial and product manufacturing firms, including 3M, Boeing Canada, Ford Motor Company, Ontario Die Company, SKLAR-PEPPLER Inc. and Stelco Inc. The report finds that Information Technology is seen as an obstacle to innovation as well as a catalyst and IT urgently requires fresh ideas if it is to have a more effective strategic role.

  Telecom Policy Review Study: Market Forces Should Drive Telecommunications Development in Canada

Survey, Stakeholder Consultations and Case Studies Lead to Recommendations
The results of a six-month advocacy campaign conducted by the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance regarding the federal government's Telecom Policy Review for new regulatory policies, have strongly urged the government to allow market forces to take the lead in encouraging adoption of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs).   A Global Sourcing Action Roadmap for Canada

  Telecom Policy Review - Telecom Industry Leaders Call for "Completely Clean Sheet" for Federal Telecom Act

In a submission to the Federal Government's Telecom Policy Review (TRP), a number of Canada's leading information technology companies united to urge the Government to modernize the Telecommunications Act to promote its entire agenda of competition, investment and commercialization.

  Canadian Businesses Embracing Mobile Technology To Stay Competitive

CATAAlliance survey shows 60 per cent of Canadian businesses are willing to invest in mobile technology

Canadian businesses are optimistic about the adoption of mobile technology with 82 per cent believing that the portable office - the ability to work from anywhere, anytime will be a reality in the next five years. In addition, 53 per cent of respondents think their companies will adopt converged voice and data networks to provide workers with access to voicemail and e-mail through the device of their choice within the next three years.

A research initiative that resulted in 400+ companies that revealed deep concern regarding the proposed reforms. Results revealed respondents wanted more clarity about the proposed procurement process and were concerned about the concept of centralizing procurement, expressing fears that it will lead to a drastic reduction in competition without assuring a reduction in government contracting costs.

Preliminary survey of Canada's HPC community breaks new ground
The report, titled A Survey of the State of Canadian HPC Readiness and the Need for Highly Qualified People determined that the industry itself has a difficult time defining precisely what constitutes high performance computing. This preliminary survey was undertaken by the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance at the urging of the C3.ca Association (www.c3.ca) in attempting to quantify the HPC community's needs for its soon-to-be-released Long Range Plan.

  Advanced Security Profile

The first-ever 200- page report of the Canadian Advanced Technology security industry. This combined guidebook, survey and trends analysis documents the security solutions that use information and communications technology (ICT) to meet a growing range of security applications and customer needs.

This initiative also involves the development of, and access to, a database of more than 700 advanced technology companies and system integrators that are involved with the advanced security industry in order to promote new commercial opportunities, joint ventures, partnerships, etc. for Canadian based enterprises.

The project was backed by the Government of Canada (Industry Canada and Foreign Affairs), the Government of Quebec (Treasury Board) and key players from the private sector (Bell, LGS an IBM company, BMO Financial Group / assisted by the Canadian Commercial Corporation and by the following trade associations CANASA and CIPS.
