Valarie Findlay

Valarie has over 15 years experience in providing cyber security strategic expertise compatible to the operational level for federal initiatives in defence and public security. She specialized in cyber security in her undergraduate work and holds a Masters in Terrorism Studies from the University of St. Andrew's, with her dissertation on the transformation of law enforcement in Western nations. Currently, she is writing her thesis for her doctorate in Social Sciences on terrorism as a social phenomenon within Elias' process of civilization theory. She writes regularly for Vanguard, Police Chief and Frontline magazines and is a research fellow with the Police Foundation (US). Current research focuses on human factors derived from body-worn camera footage (joint effort with NJ's Chief Parham and West Point) to improve CIT and mental health CI, and cyber security policies and frameworks for law enforcement organizations. She is member of the NATO Assoc. of Canada, the Cyber Committee with the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA), the International Assoc. of Chiefs of Police (US), Women in Defence (WIDS) and the Canadian Network for Research on Terrorism, Security and Society.
